Walking the streets

Thanks to NAVA and Arts NSW, as a special offer, I’m giving 5 photographers the opportunity to take part in a new one-on-one workshop program for FREE!

About the workshop

Therapeutic photography is the process by which the act of making a photographic image is the therapy itself with or without a therapist involved at any stage of the process. Photography is an accessible means of communication, for people to share their thoughts, viewpoints, frustrations and joys. For me, the pursuit of photography has also been a form of self help, as a means to gain personal insight and a better understanding of the world around me.

The workshop will be one on one, giving you an introduction to contemporary street photography and street portraiture. We will spend 2 hours in a suburb of Sydney of your choosing, talking and observing as we walk the streets, stopping to photograph whatever catches our eye. Not only will you receive hands-on experience guided by an experienced photographer but you will also learn the ethics and responsibilities of a photographer working in the public domain.

About me

After completing multiple photographic workshops in western Sydney for young emerging photographers, George had the idea to also extend his teaching to others who are looking to feel more comfortable photographing on the street.

George worked as a staff photographer for a community newspaper group in the western suburbs of Sydney for 6 years before going freelance in mid 2013. As well as teaching photographic workshops for refugees and emerging photographers, George has a passion for contemporary documentary photography and photobooks. George’s personal work consists of ongoing long term projects which have been published extensively, both domestically and in international publications.

George joined Oculi in 2013.

You can follow his work in western Sydney at: http://www.georgev.com.au

To apply, simply email georgev@oculi.com.au with your preferred suburb and a link to some of your work or 4-6 jpgs (1000px wide @ 72 dpi).

Submissions close on the 7th October and successful applicants will be notified within a week.
